Electric Genesis GV70 to debut at Auto Guangzhou 2021

Genesis will electrify all of its products.

Genesis will soon unveil an electric version its GV70, after having already unveiled an electric G80.

Korean luxury brand, Luxus Korea has released a teaser picture of a new GV70 model that will be debuting at Auto Guangzhou 202021. The debut will occur in the U.S. on Thursday due to differences in time zones. Watch a livestream in the video.

Genesis hasn’t yet confirmed the new GV70 version as an EV. But the car’s identity is revealed by the closed grille on the teaser picture. Genesis also said in a statement released with the teaser that it is “charging toward the future.”

An official name has yet to be given for this vehicle. The electric G80 is called an Electrified G80 by Genesis, and the electric GV70 could be called Electrified GV70. The January trademark filings at the United States Patent and Trademark Office suggest that the electric GV70 could be branded an eGV70 here in the U.S.

If the electric GV70 is approved for sale in America, you can expect it to arrive as a model 2022.

A prototype of the vehicle has already been seen, and it featured the same seal-off grille as the one you see above, but without exhaust tips. We don’t know what platform the vehicle is using. It is likely that the modified GV70 platform will be used. M3, an aluminum-intensive platform that Genesis is the only one to use, is also available in the G80 GV80. Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP EV platform is another possibility. It’s also found in the GV60.

As a 2022 model, the gas-powered GV70 is now available in the U.S. You can choose from a 300-hp turbocharged, 2.5-liter inline-4 or a powerful, 375-hp twin-turbocharged, 3.5-liter V-6. Prices start at around $42,000. Standard features include an 8-speed auto and all-wheel drive.

Genesis, which is dedicated to zero emissions vehicles, has announced it will launch hydrogen-fuel cell or battery-powered vehicles starting in 2025. According to the automaker, by 2030 no vehicle in the showrooms will have an internal combustion engine.
