GAC Aion LX Plus Has A 626-Mile Range According To China’s Test Cycle

Guangzhou’s GAC Group recently unveiled its latest production vehicle, the LX Plus. It’s called the LX Plus and boasts an impressive 1,008 km (626-mile) range according to the China light-duty vehicle test cycle (CLTC). The fully electric SUV that debuted at the 2021 Guangzhou Auto Show is an improved version of the GAC Aion LX that was unveiled in 2019, joining the smaller Aion V Plus SUV and the Aion S Plus sedan in the automaker’s fully electric range.

While CLTC is a  different standard compared to Europe’s WLTP or US’s EPA, a range above 1,000 km is quite an achievement, especially for an SUV. It was possible because of a large battery pack that has 144.4 kWh capacity in the Aion LX Plus. The battery uses GAC’s technology with elastic sheets, making it 20 percent smaller and 14 percent lighter than a conventional one, allowing an energy density of 205Wh/kg.

This model is equipped with two electric motors that produce 725 HP (540kW / 734 PS), and are transmitted to the wheels via a dual-speed gearbox. Aion LX Plus is able to accelerate between 0-100km/h (0-62 mph), in 2.9 seconds. It’s slower than the Tesla Model X Plaid yet still blisteringly fast considering it’s a 5-door SUV. Aion will offer smaller versions of the LX Plus that have smaller batteries and more powerful emotors.

The Aion LX Plus’s design is very similar to its predecessor, the LX. Redesigned faces have a more modern design, thanks to the absence of a grille and the more sculptured bumper with a single intake as well as a prominent splitter. While the LED headlights remain, the profile and sporty rear end are identical.

This SUV measures in at 4,835mm (190.4 inch) long by 1,935mm (76.2inch) wide by 1,685mm (66.3 inch) long and has a wheelbase measuring 2,920mm (114.9 inches).

RoboSense has also added three lidars to their fleet, which will bring enhanced self-driving capabilities. Those are visible from the exterior, with one mounted on the roof and two more placed on the front fenders, covering a 300° angle around the vehicle.

The new dashboard features a 15.6 inch freestanding infotainment screen with an updated 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor. It also includes ADiGO 2.0 software. You will find familiar cabin features throughout, including a panoramic sunroof, Nappa leather upholstery and an Alpine 10 speaker audio system.

GAC didn’t reveal pricing for the Aion LX Plus, but it is expected to be more expensive than its predecessor, which costs between ¥229,600 ($35,957) and ¥349,600 ($54,750).
