GM reportedly to produce electric Hummers for US military

In an interview, General Motors Defense’s head said that the 2022 GMC Hummer EEV pickup truck could become a U.S. military car. CNBCPublied on Thursday.

GM intends to construct prototypes of its militarized Hummer EV (eLRV), in 2022 in order for U.S. Army evaluation, GM Defense president Steve DuMont stated in an interview with the Warren, Michigan Tech Center.

According to the report, GM might use the Hummer EV to make it a military vehicle in the same way that the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2-based Infantry Squad Vehicle could. While the ISV retains the ZR2’s basic platform and powertrain, it uses a more stripped down body. According to reports, it is likely that the prototype eLRV will use the frame and motors of the Hummer EV, but the bodywork won’t be identical to the civilian version.

Hummer EV-based eLRVs are not a certainty. According to the report, GM was just one of the 10 companies who responded to an Army request for information about an electric vehicle. Next, the Army will release specifications and request prototypes to be built. The report states that two companies are to be considered for production of vehicles. This decision will likely come by the middle of next decade.

Deliveries of the civil Hummer EV are expected before the end. This edition 1 model will feature approximately 1,000 horsepower. GMC says that this vehicle, which weighs in at nearly 9,000 pounds, can accelerate to 60 mph in 3.0 seconds. GMC claims that the Hummer EV’s off-road capabilities will be impressive. It has Extract Mode which increases the suspension height to 15.9 inches and Crab Walk which moves the vehicle diagonally using a four-wheel steering.

Hummer EV Edition 1 starts at $112 5,95, which includes delivery. GMC will launch an EV3X version of the Hummer EV Edition 1 about a year later with the same engine and $99,995 starting price. The EV2X, EV2X models and EV2X will be available in 2023 or 2024. The EV2X starts at $89.995 while the EV2X begins at $79.995. As a model for 2024, a Hummer SUV EV will also be made available as an alternative to the EV2X.
