Kandi K32 Looks Like A Pickup But It Is An Electric UTV With 28 Hp Limited To Off-Road Use

Kandi America (US branch of China-based Kandi Technologies Group) has introduced the K32. This off-road EV looks almost like a pickup truck, but it is actually an un-street legal UTV. This is Kandi’s third model to be available in the US, after the budget-friendly K23 and K27 that were introduced in 2020.

The Kandi K32 can be mistakenly thought to be a pickup truck from the outside. This is due to its dual-cab design and high ground clearance. In fact, with a length of 214 inches (5,436 mm), it is longer than a Ford Ranger, which probably served as an inspiration for the Chinese vehicle’s grille and headlights.

These 17-inch wheels come with chunky 265/65/R17 tyres. A variety of accessories, such as fake hood scoops and roof-mounted lights are also available.

The K32, despite its rugged appearance, is classified as an Off Road UTV. This limits the K32’s use for recreation activities that are not on the main road. Dual electric motors produce 28 HP (21kW / 29 PS) and are directed to the four wheels. This kind of power is good for a 65 mph (105 km/h) top speed, while Kandi didn’t provide any acceleration figures.

The K32 is available in two variants, the base-spec with a 20.7 kWh battery allowing a 60-mile (97 km) range, and the long-range with a larger 50 kWh battery offering a 150-mile (241 km) range. A full charge can be achieved using the 240V/32A port. According to the official website it takes about 7.5 hours. The curb weight of 4,089 lbs (1,855 kg) sounds quite heavy for such a vehicle, with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of 5,357 lbs (2,430 kg) limiting the cargo-carrying capabilities.

The interior has enough space for 4 adults. Although the materials used on the dashboard are simple, the central console features a 10 inch infotainment screen and a cluster of digital instruments. Two airbags, an ABS, EBD, and a rearview cam are included in the equipment.

The base-spec K32 starts from $27,699 in the US before any state incentives are applied, while the long-range variant starts from $34,499. Kandi America will offer a basic three-year warranty or 36k miles, and five-years or 30k mile warranty for its lithium-ion battery. K32 will only be available to Powersports dealers. The first deliveries are scheduled for 2022.
