Polestar Previews Precept EV’s Production Version On Video, Will Be Called The Polestar 5

Polestar has released a new series of videos that follow the development process starting with the 2020 Precept concept vehicle and ending up in the production model, the Polestar 5. The fully-electric four-door GT, which will be available in electric form only in two years’ time, is currently under development. However the final episode gives us an excellent look at the design of its exterior.

Nahum Escobedo, Exterior Design Manager at Polestar, talks about the inspiration behind the vehicle’s design which comes from sharks and airplanes. Although the Polestar 5’s design is very close to that of the Precept concept, some elements have been streamlined for production.

The design changes include larger LED headlights and a redesigned bumper.

The core features of the Precept concept car are retained so the Polestar 5 can be instantly identified as an evolution. Of course, the design is not yet finalized, since designers and engineers have some work to do before it’s ready for production, although we doubt that the end result will look any different from what we see here.

Polestar describes their new model as “an electric performance 4-door Grand Touring car”. It will be a direct competitor to the Tesla Model S and Audi e-tron GT. This model will combine luxury and performance. Thomas Ingenlath from Polestar stated that it can be an effective competitor for Porsche a few months ago.

The Polestar 5 will arrive in 2024 before the Polestar 3 is launched. This SUV will be followed by the Polestar 4 coupe/SUV later.
