Porsche Is Set To Build More Paint To Sample Cars Than Ever Before

Porsche’s famed Paint to Sample program is being expanded and we should expect to see many more striking Porsche models on the roads.

German automaker BMW has confirmed that it will offer 160 color samples through its Paint to Sample program. The Paint to Sample Plus program is available for those who want a custom color.

The model will determine the number of standard Paint to Sample colors available. The 911 and 718 models have more than 100 available colors, while the Panamera and Macan offer more than 50 Paint to Sample options. There are 65 colors available for the all-electric Taycan through this program.

A new color mixing bank went online at Porsche’s Zuffenhausen factory earlier this year, allowing for the expansion of the Paint to Sample program. Porsche can now increase its capacity to produce approximately five Paint to sample cars per day, to around 20.

Whereas pricing for Porsche’s standard array of metallic and non-metallic colors ranges from $650 to $3,270, Paint to Sample colors are much more expensive. Paint to Sample colors cost approximately $11,430, for the majority of 911 and 718 model models. The 718 GT and 911 Turbo models, Turbo S and 911 GT3 model, will see their price rise to $12,830.

Paint to Sample Plus takes it one step further. A customer sends a sample to their dealer. Porsche AG then tests it for quality and feasibility. It can take as long as 11 months for this testing. The average Paint to Sample Plus model costs $22,860, while the 911 Turbo and 911 GT3 models cost $25,660. 718 GT models are more expensive.

“Individualization is at the core of Porsche,” president and chief executive of Porsche Cars North America, Kjell Gruner said. “Paint to Sample is integral in satisfying that demand. With this offering, we bring many historic colors back to life and expand the catalog to a total of more than 160 choices.”
