While taking the driver’s written permit exam does not require you to write a long essay, it’s still safe to assume the worst. In fact, because student drivers think that this is the easiest part of the exam, many fail to pass it. Here are some of the reasons why:
Last Minute Cramming
Because the written permit exam is not just a simple test where you’ll just jot down a paragraph or two, students tend to cram during the last minute. Oftentimes, students don’t even realize this until it’s almost time for the test.
For some, a week of cramming is enough to pass. However, this will only lead to sleep deprivation or inattentiveness. Cramming is only short-term too, so it’s easy to forget the important details during the exam.
Unmanaged Study Time
Sometimes, cramming happens because student drivers don’t manage their time well. Hence, it’s inevitable to get sidetracked, especially when they have other matters to attend to. Despite this, it’s not hard to manage one’s schedule. As long as there is a commitment, then allocating an hour or two for studying is achievable.
One effective way to do this is by assigning study topics on the remaining days left before the exam starts. The handbook or study guide is easy to divide into chunks, so study one topic at a time.
Passive Learning
While passively studying your handbook is fine, it’s better that you mix different types of studying techniques while you’re at it. Being too passive is not necessarily bad but actively pursuing the topic has a greater impact. That’s why students are encouraged to actively participate in activities that could help them during the exam.
Examples of these activities involve actual steps such as practicing driving, parking, or simply actively knowing the signs on the road.
Anxiety Attacks
It’s normal to feel nervousness during the test but too much of this could lead to students failing. When one is anxious, this hampers his ability to think clearly during the exam. So, practice breathing techniques or prep yourself before your day begins.
There are various methods to appease one’s mood. You could either light scented candles on the night before the test so that you’ll have a good night’s rest or even practice mind tricks to calm the jitters. Each of us has our own ways of calming our nerves so whatever works will do.
Distracted State of Mind
A distracted student will never learn anything from his readings. That’s why a clear mind on or before the test is needed in order for students to pass, learn, and apply what they’re taught during the whole ordeal. To keep one’s mind from distraction, focus on a goal.
Give yourself a break. This is the time to study, so you’re allowed to put on hold some of the less important things you normally do and start planning your study routine.
Taking the driver’s written permit exam is not a fast essay kind of exam, so student drivers need to prepare for this. It may sound overwhelming but with just the tips above, one can never go wrong.
