Kia is recalling certain models of the 2020 and 2021 Kia Stinger in the United States because there was an issue with fuel gauge.
A manufacturer investigation revealed that several instrument clusters manufactured between March 10, 2020 and December 14, 2020 came from a supplier that had made a mistake in the software logic/calibration. The fuel gauge may not correctly reflect fuel consumption. If the fuel gauge incorrectly shows more fuel, it could cause a sudden fuel shortage, which can lead to Stinger models being stuck.

Recall involves 53 Kia Stinger models. These were made between March 20, 2020 and December 28, 2020.
All owners of the affected cars will be notified via first class mail and given instructions on how to take their vehicle to a Kia dealer for software updates. Kia will pay any previous owners for the problem to be resolved.
The Kia Stinger is a vehicle that has been long loved by both owners and journalists, but it did not sell the number of units Kia had expected. The Korean automaker is expected to stop production of the Stinger at the end of the second quarter in 2022. Instead, it will tweak its production lines and begin producing electrified models such as the Carnival Hybrid. Kia’s transition to all-electric vehicles means the Stinger will not be replaced.
