Tesla Recalling Model S And Model X Again, This Time Because Their Airbags May Tear When Deployed

Tesla is recalling several thousand Model S and Model X 2021 vehicles because of an airbag problem.

Mexican suppliers discovered that airbags could be caught on cover doors during deployment.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in a recall notice, notes that the supplier began to make the defective airbag cover covers from June 29, 2021. They continued producing them until September 8, 20,21.

Tesla will recall 2021 Model S models manufactured between June 21st 2021 to September 29, 2021. Also, it will recall 2021 Model X Model Xs made between September 3, 2021 through September 23, 2021. Total 7,600 vehicles will be affected by the recall.

Tesla will simply replace the airbags in all of the affected cars to fix this problem. New design features reinforcement of the cushion fabric in areas where tears could occur.

Tesla Service Centers and Tesla Stores were all notified about the recall before November 10. Owners will receive notification via mail January 7, 2022.

The recall follows a few weeks ago when nearly 12,000 Model S and Model 3 models, Model Y and Model X were recalled. This was due to a communication problem that could have led to a false forward collision warning or an automatic emergency braking event.
