If you always wanted an RV vehicle, but don’t want to spend a lot of money, you should try buying one of the used motorhomes. They are often as good as new. However, sometimes the person selling the vehicle might try to scam you by selling you a lemon. So what can you do to avoid it? Here are some tips on what to do when buying a used motorhome to not end up with a lemon:
- Don’t ever buy a motorhome that you cannot see, especially if the owner or the seller is pushing for the finalization of the transaction without letting you take a look around.
- Look out for mould. Check every corner, as sometimes you cannot see it, but you can smell it. Also, check the furniture, like cabinets – if they feel warmer than the rest of the vehicle, there’s a big chance that mould is growing inside of them. Mould is an excellent indicator of water problems or leaks.
- Check the roof by carefully walking on it. If it feels sturdy and stable, then everything is okay. If it doesn’t, then there’s a big chance that it’s rotted.
- Do a close inspection of the ceiling and the floors. What you’re looking for are brown spots – they are an indication of a water problem. When it comes to the ceiling, look for places where it is bowed or coming down. When it comes to the floors, jump up and down a few times, especially in the bathroom and the kitchen – you might think that it’s silly, but if the floor is not stable or sturdy, it could be rotting.
- If you still don’t think that you are capable of detecting when someone is trying to sell you a lemon, go to a reliable RV reseller.
