Top Tips to Sell Your Car

Not everyone would like to trade-in their car. They feel they can always get more money for their car if they can sell it by themselves. If you are one of these, here are a few tips that can help you get a better price for your car:

Fix Mechanical Issues if any

A mechanically sound car is the one that will sell the fastest and at the best price. So before you sell your car, you have to get all the mechanical issues fixed and make your car appear well-serviced and well-maintained to your buyers. In case there are any issues that you aren’t able to fix, you should make it a point to educate the buyer about the magnitude of that issue.

Get a tune-up and a thorough inspection

If you want car buyers to take a quick decision on buying your car, it makes sense to take your car for a state safety inspection. Make sure they check the basics, top up all fluids, and ensure there is no maintenance lights turned on. Such a tune-up and inspection should not cost much; but it provides a lot of peace of mind to the buyer.

Arrange for a Vehicle History Report

Any car buyer would like to know the history of the vehicle before buying it. Although you have known your car well, it pays to get a vehicle history report that will give full details about your car to the car buyers. Go through the report and make sure there are no errors.

Get your car cleaned inside out

Take your car for a thorough wash before you put it on the market. Pay attention to every detail and try and remove every stain. If you are parking it outside, you may have to rinse it off every now and then to keep it ready for showing.

Write a good but brief description

If you are posting an ad for your car, it will need a good description giving full details about the make, model, year, condition, features, mileage, and unique history of the car. Be as honest as possible and try not to mislead your buyers. Include a few good photographs that give a clear picture of your car.

Price Competitively

Check with a few local mechanics and fix a competitive price for your car. You can even go through a few listings on websites such as Craigslist, Cars.com and www.ecarscash.com to see how similar cars are priced. Make sure the price you quote is at least 10 to 15 percent lower than the dealer listings.

List Extensively

You will have to increase the visibility of your Ad if you want your car to sell quickly and at a good price. Apart from the usual car trading websites, you should also think of Facebook, eBay local, and a few enthusiast fan forums to list your ad. Although you might end up sending a few extra bucks to list your car everywhere, it will give you lot of exposure and hence more buyers. Remember to respond promptly whenever you get inquiries.
